Chart Plotters
Since 1994 as LORAN was being phased out Garmin was the units we went to for our GPS needs. It was pretty archaic then as compared to todays standards but then like today it was the best in the industry.
Today the clean crisp detail with some units having high resolution of 1080, the amazing speed that the chart plotters have as well as touch screen technology its almost too easy. expand and zoom with the squish of two fingers just like an Ipad. Accuracy is critical in the way that we fish and conduct the operations of our boats. 3 ft can be the difference of hitting an underwater obstacle or passing right around it. Many times big fish are found near the smallest target and the Garmin chart plotter enables us to get right on top of these targets and help our folks catch big fish.
Garmin Home Port
Computers have come along way and with Garmins ability to work well with SD cards we are able to keep up on our every growing portfolio of fishing spots that number well over 7000 just in the Key West area for our fishing. This plotting software has made what could be a major hassle to a fantastic tool for learning, fleet management and trip planning. I am able to file the work area of each one of our boats and keep track of fish moments, trends and fuel economy. Without getting into to much detail there is so much information just in the tracks of our boats on their Garmin chart plotters that is transferable to the Garmin Home port to allow me to study and get the most out of our days on the water.
Garmin Sounders
Words like side view, chirp and down view meant nothing three years ago. Now they are the best in marine sounders with Garmin.
With the new Chirp technology the Garmin sounders are reading a whole different set of frequencies and information each time the sounder "pings". This has given a whole new level of target definition on the screen for us to see what is truly down there with amazing clarity and detail.
Downvu is an amazing too that some of our boats equipped with this technology are able to utilize. Using high frequency the sonar is able to decipher the signal and actually draw a sort of image of the bottom below the boat. a very cool tool for us as we fish so much structure and it allows us to map exactly where the fish are able to hide and make our drop right in their face.
Sidevu is an amazing tool as well much like down view only looking to the sides of our boat as it makes a path through the water. Super functional when we are working in channels where we are tarpon fishing. This prevents us from driving right over the fish, yet we will still know where they are. Thanks to side view.
Garmin VHF
We have a ton of experience with the Garmin 300 VHF radio and have found it to be as good as anything we have ever used on the market. Super clear and powerful we can keep in touch with each other all day without concern of how far away we are.
Garmin Meteor 300
A few of our boats have nice stereo systems by Rockford Fosgate. Crisp clear and amazing sounds. The biggest pain in the but is the head unit right on the dash board to control all the tunes.. Not anymore.. The Garmin Meteor 300 offers all the functionality of any head unit right in the chart plotter to control it. Attach the amps to the networked unit and the rest is right on the screen. Easy, simple and last forever. Next time you are putting a boat system together, use a Garmin chart plotter that works with the Garmin Meteor 300. What a great way to go.
