Across The Board
We don't worry about hook sets, we don't sweat broken hooks, we don't concern ourselves with how sharp a hook is out of the pack. It's Owner we know its right. One less thing to think about when it comes to guiding that allows us to focus on the real stuff, like where the fish are and how we can get our clients to them.
Mutu Lights are the way to go. Tarpon fishing we have landed fish over 100 lbs on a thin wire 3/0 hook. The Mutu Lights are our "go to" hook of choice with a perfect bend in the offset and nice curve to the circle design. 3/0 - 6/0 is our size preference here. Lighter wire means less weight so our live baits can swim better resulting in more hook ups. Lighter wire also means less visible which, means more hook ups.
Flats Fishing for Bonefish we know that they run in and snatch a bait faster than a purse snatcher. The Owner 1/0 and 2/0 ssw Cutting points stick him on contact. Rarely do my clients have to set the hook, the fish already did it, makes bonefishing easy and gets our clients more fish. Permit have super soft gummy mouths that can tear easy. The SSW cutting point goes in but wont rip out.
Grouper and snapper do not have a chance against the Mutu series and the offshore series from Owner. Super sharp and stays in the mouth after the hook set all the way to the surface into the box.
Our fly fishing hooks have to be incredibly strong to handle the fish here in Key West. We use the 2/0 - 4/- fly liner and the AKI series for a none offset great fly tying hook. Super sharp and very strong.
I have been professionally guiding full time since 1993 here in Key West. Owner is one of those things that are just a fact on my boat in my fishing. I use nothing else for hooks and very happy with the results. When people ask me why the expensive hooks I tell them our time out there is limited make the most of it with the best equipment you can buy. --- Capt. Steven Lamp
